But if you don’t try you will never learn, its about perfecting your instrument where the manufacturer has stopped short,

If I was a harmonica manufacturer I would scour the internet collect all the hundreds of hours of absolutely free research and development by the custom harmonica gurus and use this knowledge to create a harmonica that you would never have to remove the cover plates for anything other than to clean it! and corner the market

BUT I’M NOT !

SO I CAN’T !

SO ITS BACK TO TWIDDLING WITH YOUR HARPS IN A BID TO RECTIFY THE FAULTS THAT THE MAKERS DON’T FEEL THEY NEED TO BOTHER WITH BECAUSE THEY HAVE CORNERED THE MARKET !!!!!

I AM NO CUSTOM HARP GURU I AM JUST TRYING TO HONE MY CUSTOMISING SKILLS AND I HOPE THESE PAGES HELP YOU TO UNDERSTAND THE ART OF HARP TUNING

ORDER OF HARP PROBLEM RECTIFICATION

1/ AIR LEAKS, you must first remove all air leaks between the comb and the reed plates or doing anything at all could do more harm than good. wood combs are more prone to this problem due to saw marks in the wood hindering a close fit

2/ CLEAN AND FREE REEDS, is the reed clean from debris and saliva and devoid of burs to the reed and reed slot edges, a magnifying glass or jewellers loop is a must have tool for close inspection of the reeds

3/ REED GAPS & POSITION, the reed must be aligned true in the reed slot and free to vibrate in the reed slot and then check the gap at the tip of the reed,

4/ EMBOSSING, embossing the sides of the reed slot to open or close up the slot.

3/PITCH TUNING, check with the use of a chromatic tuner and adjust the reeds for sharp or flat reeds as required
